Just landed @ Dulles...waiting for my wbf to pick me up n welcome me home :D

This jetting adventure has been more than anything I can wish for...travelling, discovering myself, exploring n learning about what the world has to offer outside of my comfort zone, trying my hands @ various sports, being very sponstaneous n playing by ear, actually kicked back n relished every moment...enjoying exotic locales, food and mingling w/ new people everywhere I went...all the while visiting my beloved friends n family all across the country...and celebrated my 29th birthday in the Bahamas!...w/ my wbf who made it all possible and more. Words can't describe my overwhelming feeling of love and appreciation. I'm truly blessed and thankful. : )

btw...this trip was made possible partly by my last stop...Vegas...esp. Ceasars Palace poker room. ; ) lol

Thanks to all of my friends for the birthday wishes!!! and especially to my wbf who made this amazing jet-setting adventure and my birthday celebration in the Bahamas possible!!!!! For my bday, we went sailing, rock climbing, took trapeze lessons, played volleyball, snorkeled, ate dinner @ the romantic Garden of Eden's restaurant, and gambled @ Atlantis!!! I'm the luckiest birthday girl and am sooooo thankful! <3<3<3

Charade...a la a 7 year-old! - Mobile Update

Played charade w/ my little cousin. She's the most charismatic person I've ever met!!! Haha I have the urge to enter her into Toddlers & Tiara -ish kids pageants. She can out-cute any kid, I guarantee it.
How would u act out football as a 7 year old girl? She pointed to her foot as she was holding a ball in the other hand. I kept shouting out soccer and kickball. Hahaha
We played for 30 mins just the 2 of us but mostly w/ her acting out clues about animals, sports and occupations. Hilarious! The fam. Is gonna love my video of the last 15 mins of the game. She's quite a lovely, smart, bubbly, animated but well-behaved, funny, caring and respectful little person... at all times...really! The most entertaining member of our family!!! She's how I will remember my day of 09/09/09.

Good night! Hope the benadryl will help my allergies while knocking me out for a much needed good night rest.

Awesome 1st Day of Jet-setting!

This entry was long and difficult because I had to figure out how to upload pics and not use Blogger.com's slow and single upload and vertical layout. Pictures were going to be in single vertical line! But I learned to use slide.com and blog w/ my phone so things will be much shorter, up-to-date and quicker.

Pre-departure:
1. Got a new hairdo by chopping off 10 inches of my hair to donate to Locks of Love again. And voila! a low-maintenance bob to travel with...and for a great cause. Thanks to Tom of Bethesda's Chaos Salon.

2. Tried to get tickets to see my favorite shows Oprah, Ellen and Martha Stewart to no avail but found out that Oprah sometimes gives out last minute tickets on her website. Finally, as my luck would have it, on Labor Day Monday, while taking a break from packing, I found out that Oprah had last minute tickets to her standing room only season kick-off party show!...but for the next day Tuesday Sept. 08. A hotline number was listed ( 312-656-4211)! The only time I've ever seen a phone number to call instead of winning your Oprah's seat through the show's lottery. Perfect! I would've rearranged my flights just to go to the show...except that the audience was required to attend the rehearsal that day by 4pm and my clock said 3:30pm.

3. Took an inventory of my favorite clothes and things to bring for the trips...hoping to select a few items from each group and travel light. Who was I kidding?!? THAT didn't happen! I packed everything shown in the pic except I forgot my ipod. Meanwhile, I did fit them all into my carry-on bag by rolling each clothing item into rolls instead of folding. I learned that from the best. ;)

09/08/09 Departure: IAD - FLL - ATL

- Visiting my uncle T's family in the ATL. Been wanting to visit them and see Atlanta for the first time. Meanwhile, maybe learn the keen business acumen from my uncle T, the man who built Berkeley Beauty Company from scratch. Entrepreneurship seems to circulate in our H Family's blood and have produced a handful of succesful business domains. I'm all ears to their insights and advices. But of course, I look forward to spending some R & R time with my aunts, uncles and their kids...my cousins are pretty darn cute! <3>

Silver Spring, MD to Dulles Airport (IAD) at 6 am was a smooth and took 45 mins while VA side looked like a parking lot. Thanks to my wonderful bf (wbf) for seeing me off to start my jet-setting!

Meetup group from facebook decided that each of us should tie a blue ribbon around our carry-on so we can recognize each other if we were @ the same airport. I tied a blue ribbon on my purse but did not see any other blue ribbons @ IAD nor on the plane. I actually was picturing us pass holders celebrating our first flight with a cocktail or two on the plane. haha

Did anyone know that we can go through a speedy security checkpoint at the lower level - international arrival area? It was awesome! With only carry-on bags and boarding pass in hands, I sped through the line of 10 people!

The America! souvenir shop in front of JetBlue's terminal had great gifts...Obama and flag pencils for $1 are great for kids and an Obama bobblehead is great for any age. I hope my friend HL will like it but Obama has been keeping me company as my travel buddy. He's been very photogenic especially in beach pictures! ;)

It was a full plane and I was among the last people to board...which was a pleasant surprise to find out that the overhead compartments are usually full by the end and we got to have our carry-on checked-in and free of charge just like a baby stroller. No having to lift my overpacked suitcase over my head on the plane! Things were just working themselves out beautifully!!!

Flight was 3 hours to Ft. Lauderdale. Then, I'll fly to ATL via Spirit Air...additional cost separate from my pass but so worth seeing my uncle and his fam. I was exhausted from having slept only 4 hrs last night so I was half asleep for the first 2 hrs in flight.

I was finally awake during the last hour in flight and struck up a convo w/ my neighbor flyer to see if he was a fellow pass holder or if not, share my plans of the exciting endeavor. I didn't know how to start so I introduced him to my travel buddy! He did not have a pass but we ended up talking for the rest of the flight about it. His name was Scott. He was traveling on a business trip as a VP of recruiting for a small gov't contracting comp. He was nice and friendly and may even find me a job! He gave me his business card. We talked about my plans, blog and the meetup group and what he would do if he had found out about the pass. He would fly to different cities to play golf and see music concerts he said. We exchanged stories about concert venues, our music background, tips on traveling w/ JetBlue, family and work. It was a great conversation!

I landed in FLL and had 3 hrs before my Spirit Air flight. Claimed my bag and got the Broward County Transit map from the info desk. I was set out to see if I could get to a local beach for lunch...Google maps indicated a few beaches nearby.

JB was @ gate 3 ...2 mins walking from gate 4 w/ Spirit Air and the free Tri-rail (a commuter train) shuttle and bus stop. The shuttle driver was not friendly nor helpful. Fellow passengers assured me it was the right shuttle. Free shuttle ride to the airport's Tri-rail/bus main station. Bus #4 was the only one with the route along the beaches. Each ride was $1.50 so I paid $3 for all day bus pass just in case I transfer buses but ended up not using it more. Again, the driver was unfriendly and unwilling to help or even talk and a fellow passenger assured me that it was the right bus. The driver actually said he couldn't read my map since he didn't have his glasses. Huh??? I was contemplating not being on his bus but it was another 45 mins for the next one. What was going on with these bus drivers? Anyhow, the bus came upon the first beach within 10 15 mins. Stopped right at the beach in front of a restaurant. I got off and had lunch at Dania Beach Grill and it was steps from the beach! For a local beach, it was nice! Beautiful white sand and greenish-blueish water. See the pictures!!!

It was hot so I changed out of my jeans into a swimsuit and sundress. Didn't get to swim but dipped my feet in water instead. Met a French boy visiting his dad and supposedly a restaurant entrepreneur w/ various restaurants from France and trying to start a restaurant in South Miami. Yep, supposedly. But he wasn't really that bad.

The bus was late, not unpredictable, so the waitress called me a cab @ 1:45pm and advised me how to deal with the cab drivers if they'd try to rip me off. Ask for estimate before the ride...only supposed to be ~ $10. She was a sweetheart. She even carried my overpacked suitcase to the cab to save me time while I was asking him for the fare cost.

Cab came @ 2:05pm w/ fare $14.50 for 10 mins to airport: $2.50 pick up and $.40 for every 1/6 mile
Check-in at Spirit Air counter @ 2:15pm. I remembered my flight was from 2:55pm to 4:30pm but nope...flight was supposed to be at 2:40pm. I'm not usually this forgetful...don't know what happened here. But I made it! With minutes to spare since Spirit Air's gate was the first one at the terminal and the security check point was short! There were 10 people boarding behind me too. Phew!

Lucky Birthday Girl

I'm getting excited and nervous at the same time! :)

Thanks to my wonderful bf...I got the best bday present: JetBlue's All-You-Can-Jet pass for Sept. 8th - Oct. 8th, which will encompass my birthday on 09/22! And we'll be celebrating it in the Bahamas...he's flying out to meet me since I'll be well into my jetting adventure!

I'm visiting my family and friends in Atlanta, NYC, OC/LA, Miami, Houston/Austin and possibly more. Meanwhile, my bf will meet up with me in Nassau for my bday. Then, I'm meeting up with my friend A.G. on her trip to Puerto Rico.

9/8 - 9/11 DC - Atlanta
9/12 weekend NYC
9/14 week OC/LA
9/19 - 9/23 Nassau, Bahamas
9/23 - 9/25 Miami
9/25 - 9/30 Puerto Rico
10/1 week Houston/Austin

I'm still trying to work out my plans to visit San Diego, Cancun/Los Cabos, Vegas, Boston, Maine, and Chicago...hmmm maybe day trips.

I've been getting nervous since it will be my first time traveling alone and will be going city to city and not going home for the whole month!

Which reminds me...I need to clean the whole house before I leave! And especially the fridge so nothing will be growing in there while I'm gone.

Meanwhile, I get to spend my last few days at home w/ my bf family's Annapolis day trip, buying presents for family/friends that I'll be visiting, and spending fun times w/ my bf. We've been biking to downtown SS and at Rock Creek Park, playing golf, cards, watching Monk and feasting on seafood favorites.

Now, time to clean!
